Road Trip – Burton, Tx to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Park

I had the pleasure of taking a road trip the other day, Friday to be more precise, through the Texas country side!  😉  I started in Burton, Texas which is just west of Brenham, where Blue Bell ice cream is made! I then traveled northeast on  Texas Rt. 390 to Independence, Texas and then up to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Park. The Brazos is the near by river that runs through the area.

Burton is the home of the historic Burton Cotton Gin Mill and Museum. They also have some old historic homes and buildings. After taking some pictures here I was on my way to Independence, Texas. The slow rolling hills and vast countryside make for a peaceful surrounding as I drove along the highway.

Independence of the home a historic Baptist Church & Museum.  Independence has also been since the early days of the Texas Republic when it  was called Coles Settlement. It’s a very small town with lots of history in it’s past.

Back on the road heading to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park. More hills and countryside and very little oncoming traffic.

Anson Jones original home was relocated to the park and refurbished. It is now surrounded by the Barrington Living History Farm. It has log homes, barn, slave quarters, work shed and corral. It is a working farm and costumed  people give tours and demonstrations of life in mid 1800’s.
